Bernard Hill
Bernard Hill (17 December 1944 – 5 May 2024) was a distinguished English actor celebrated for his versatile performances across film, stage, and television. With nearly 130 credits to his name, Hill garnered widespread recognition for his role as Yosser Hughes in the iconic 1982 television series Boys from the Blackstuff, a performance that left a lasting impact on British television.
In the realm of cinema, he is perhaps best remembered for portraying Captain Edward John Smith in the blockbuster Titanic, as well as King Théoden in Peter Jackson's acclaimed The Lord of the Rings trilogy. Additionally, he made a notable appearance as the Warden of San Quentin in Clint Eastwood’s True Crime. Hill holds the unique distinction of being the sole actor to feature in multiple films that have each won 11 Academy Awards, including Gandhi, Titanic, and The Return of the King. Furthermore, he is one of only three actors to have starred in more than one film that grossed over $1 billion, sharing this honor with fellow actors Orlando Bloom and Johnny Depp.
