Conny Van Dyke
Conny Van Dyke (September 28, 1945 - November 11, 2023) was a talented singer-songwriter born in Nassawadox, Virginia, to Benjamin and Charlotte Elizabeth Van Dyke. Her musical journey commenced at Wheelsville Records in Detroit, Michigan, where she honed her craft as a recording artist. In a remarkable turn of events, Van Dyke won the “Miss Teen USA” contest in 1960, an achievement sponsored by Teen magazine that was distinct from the current Miss Teen USA pageant.
In 1961, she made her mark on the music industry by signing with Motown Records, becoming one of the label's pioneering white artists. This significant milestone set the stage for her flourishing career in a predominantly Black music scene, showcasing her versatility and talent.
Beyond her music career, Van Dyke ventured into acting, notably starring in the 1970s film "Framed" alongside Joe Don Baker, where she portrayed a country lounge singer. Her contributions to both music and film have made her a memorable figure in the entertainment industry.
