LaChanze, whose full name is Rhonda LaChanze Sapp, was born on December 16, 1961. She is an accomplished American actress, singer, and dancer. In 2006, she received the prestigious Tony Award for Best Actress in a Leading Role in a Musical for her stunning performance as Celie Harris Johnson in the celebrated production of The Color Purple. In addition to her remarkable stage work, LaChanze has appeared in notable films, including The Help, released in 2011, and lent her voice to characters in the animated features Hercules, which premiered in 1997 and was followed by a sequel in 1998.
