Nastia Liukin

Anastasia Valeryevna Liukin, known as Nastia Liukin, was born on October 30, 1989, and is a distinguished former artistic gymnast who represented both Russia and the United States. She achieved remarkable success during her career, culminating in her crowning as the 2008 Olympic All-Around champion. Liukin's Olympic journey also saw her earning a total of five medals, marking her as one of the standout gymnasts of her era.

Her prowess on the balance beam was showcased when she clinched the world championship title in both 2005 and 2007, while her exceptional skills on the uneven bars earned her the world champion title in 2005. A four-time all-around U.S. national champion, she secured her titles twice as a junior and twice as a senior. With an impressive nine World Championship medals, including seven individual accolades, Liukin shares the honor of being tied for the third-most World Championship medals among U.S. gymnasts with Shannon Miller. She also holds a prestigious record of winning the most medals by an American gymnast at a single non-boycotted Olympic Games, a feat later matched by Simone Biles.

Liukin played a vital role in the U.S. senior team, competing in three World Championships and the 2008 Olympics. After a brief hiatus, she announced her intent to return to gymnastics in 2011, aiming for a spot on the 2012 Olympic team, but ultimately retired later that year.
