Asif Ali Zardari

Asif Ali Zardari, born on July 26, 1955, is the 11th President of Pakistan and serves as the Co-Chairman of the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP). Following the assassination of his wife, Benazir Bhutto, a two-time Prime Minister, in December 2007, Zardari rose to prominence as the leader of the PPP. Under his guidance, the party triumphed in the 2008 general elections, forming a coalition government that ultimately led to the resignation of military ruler Pervez Musharraf.

Zardari's political journey has not been without controversy, as he has faced numerous allegations of corruption. His past includes imprisonment from 1990 to 1993 and again from 1996 to 2004, during which he earned the nickname "Mr. 10 Percent" for purportedly receiving kickbacks in government contracts during his wife’s tenure. His presidency has been marked by challenges, including a failed attempt to block the reinstatement of judges, which was met with massive public protests led by his political rival, Nawaz Sharif. Additionally, Zardari faced criticism for his perceived insensitivity during the 2010 floods, as he traveled to Europe shortly after the disaster.
