Joey Arias has been a prominent figure in New York City's dynamic performance arts scene for over three decades. Renowned for his unique blend of performance artistry, cabaret singing, and drag, Arias initially gained recognition while collaborating with the iconic musician Klaus Nomi until Nomi's untimely passing in 1983. Since then, Arias has carved out his own niche, showcasing a distinctive vocal style reminiscent of Billie Holiday, yet distinctly personal.
His performances have graced esteemed venues across the globe, including Carnegie Hall and London’s Freedom Theatre. A significant milestone in his career was his collaboration with Cirque du Soleil, where he originated the role of the emcee in the Las Vegas show Zumanity, a role he held for six successful years. Returning to New York, Arias co-created and starred in the acclaimed production Arias With a Twist alongside master puppeteer Basil Twist, which enjoyed a remarkable eight-month run due to its critical and commercial success.
