Choi Eun-hee
Choi Eun-hee (November 20, 1926 – April 16, 2018) was a prominent South Korean actress, renowned as one of the leading figures in the film industry during the 1960s and 1970s. In a dramatic turn of events in 1978, she and her former spouse, filmmaker Shin Sang-ok, were kidnapped and taken to North Korea. There, they were compelled to produce films under duress. After enduring this harrowing experience, the couple managed to escape and sought refuge at the U.S. Embassy in Vienna in 1986. Following a decade in the United States, they returned to their homeland, South Korea, in 1999. Choi's extraordinary life and career continue to resonate, highlighting her resilience and the challenges faced by artists during tumultuous times.
