Dan Spivey
Daniel Eugene Spivey, an accomplished American professional wrestler, is renowned for his significant contributions to the wrestling scene during the 1980s and 1990s. His notable tenure included stints with World Championship Wrestling (WCW), WWE, and All-Japan Pro Wrestling (AJPW). Spivey gained prominence as one half of the notorious tag team, the Skyscrapers, and achieved a personal milestone when he captured the NWA Florida Heavyweight Championship in late 1989, a title he held until mid-1992, when he lost it to Lou Perez.
While maintaining his presence in the NWA, Spivey regularly toured AJPW, forming a celebrated partnership with Stan Hansen. Together, they nearly clinched the prestigious "World's Strongest Tag Determination League" in 1990. Returning to WCW by the end of that year, Spivey reunited with Sid Vicious for a brief but memorable appearance at Starrcade 1990.
From 1990 to 1995, he showcased his skills in Herb Abrams' Universal Wrestling Federation (UWF), where he became the sole UWF Americas Champion after defeating Johnny Ace at Blackjack Brawl. Spivey's character, Waylon Mercy, was a unique blend of a charming southern gentleman and a ruthless competitor, known for his deceptive behavior in the ring.
After retiring in 1995 due to injuries, Spivey briefly pursued modeling and later joined his family's construction firm, Spivey Underground Utility Construction Company. He returned to the ring briefly in 2015 for Dory Funk Jr.'s promotion and received the "Fighting Heart Award." Today, he runs Spivey's Sober Companions, helping others on their path to sobriety, while also serving as an ambassador for The Breakfast Station in Florida.
