Martin Parr
Martin Parr, born on May 23, 1952, is a renowned British documentary photographer, photojournalist, and avid collector of photobooks. His work is distinguished by its intimate, satirical, and anthropological examination of contemporary society, particularly focusing on the social classes of England while also reflecting on the affluence of Western culture.
Parr's notable photographic undertakings include "Rural Communities" (1975–1982), "The Last Resort" (1983–1985), "The Cost of Living" (1987–1989), "Small World" (1987–1994), and "Common Sense" (1995–1999). His distinctive style has garnered him a significant place in the world of photography.
Since becoming a member of Magnum Photos in 1994, Parr has published approximately 40 solo photobooks and has participated in around 80 exhibitions globally. Highlights of his exhibition career include the international touring showcase "ParrWorld" and a retrospective at the Barbican Arts Centre in London in 2002.
In 2014, he established the Martin Parr Foundation, which opened its doors in his native Bristol in 2017.
