Yechan Gunja Mahendran, commonly referred to as Y. G. Mahendran or Y. Gee. Mahendra, is a distinguished Indian dramatist, actor, singer, playwright, and comedian hailing from Tamil Nadu. Born to Y. G. Parthasarathy, a trailblazer in modern Tamil theatre, and Rajalakshmi Parthasarathy, the founder and dean of the Padma Seshadri Bala Bhavan schools, Mahendra was immersed in the arts from an early age.

His film career began in 1971 when he was cast in the movie "Navagraham," directed by the legendary K. Balachander, which marked his entry into cinema, albeit as a moderate success. Mahendra's unique nasal accent quickly became a hallmark of his comedic style, allowing him to shine particularly in roles typically characterized by foolishness or naïveté, often overshadowing the performances of contemporaries like Cho Ramaswamy during the 1960s and 70s.

Beyond his impressive acting credentials, Mahendra is also linked to the film industry through family ties, being the cousin of celebrated Bollywood actress Vyjayanthimala and the co-brother of icons Rajinikanth and Mohanlal. His multifaceted contributions to Indian theatre and cinema have established him as a prominent figure in the entertainment landscape, celebrated for his unique blend of humor and talent.
