Robin Das
Robin Kumar Das, hailing from Balasore, Odisha, is a distinguished Indian actor and theatre director whose work has made a significant impact in the performing arts. Best known for his roles in acclaimed films such as *Mary Kom* (2014), *Batla House* (2019), and the upcoming *The Goat Life* (2024), Das has also left his mark on the television and theatre landscape with notable performances in *Indradhanura Chhai* (1993) and numerous other productions.
His educational journey began at Dinabandhu High School in RajBerhampur, followed by advanced studies at prestigious institutions including the Shri Ram Center for Performing Arts, the University of Hyderabad (Fine Arts), Bhartendu Academy of Dramatic Arts, and ultimately graduating from the National School of Drama (NSD) in 1976. Notable contemporaries from NSD include actors Vijay Kashyap, KK Raina, and Pankaj Kapoor, alongside directors Ranjit Kapoor and Anil Chaudhary.
Throughout the 1970s and 1980s, Das collaborated with prominent theatre directors both in India and internationally, establishing himself as a remarkable dramatist known for his innovative approaches to modern Indian theatre. He has directed over 50 plays across various genres, showcasing diverse narratives and artistic expressions. Additionally, Das has contributed as an art director and actor in a variety of mediums.
In recognition of his exceptional work as a scenic designer, he was honored with the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award in 2000, affirming his influence and legacy in the realm of theatre.
