Sreela Majumdar

Sreela Majumdar (1955 - January 27, 2024) was a prominent Indian actress renowned for her significant contributions to Bengali cinema. She embarked on her cinematic journey in 1978 with the film *Parashuram*, directed by the acclaimed Mrinal Sen. Her career flourished as she took on diverse roles in numerous films, including *Ek Din Pratidin*, *Akaler Sandhane*, and *Arohan*.

One of her notable performances came in Shyam Benegal's 1983 film *Mandi*, where she portrayed a character from a brothel alongside celebrated actresses Shabana Azmi and Smita Patil. In *Chokh*, she played a widow, sharing the screen with esteemed actors Om Puri and Anil Chatterjee. Throughout her career, Majumdar showcased her versatility in various films such as *Ek Pal* (1986) and *Prasab* (1994).

In 2017, she starred in *Baranda*, a poignant drama exploring the intricacies of human relationships, where she acted alongside Manali Dey under the direction of Reshmi Mitra. Her final works included the 2023 film *Palan*, directed by Kaushik Ganguly, highlighting her enduring legacy in the film industry.
