Giles Yeo
Giles Yeo is a distinguished academic and researcher, having earned his PhD in molecular genetics from the University of Cambridge in 1998, where he was a member of Wolfson College. Following his doctoral studies, he joined the laboratory of Prof Sir Stephen O’Rahilly, delving into the genetic underpinnings of severe human obesity. Currently, he holds the position of Professor of Molecular Neuroendocrinology and serves as a programme leader at the MRC Metabolic Diseases Unit in Cambridge. His research is primarily centered on how genetics affect feeding behaviors and body weight regulation.
In addition to his academic role, Yeo is a fellow of Wolfson College and has been appointed Honorary President of the British Dietetic Association. He is also known for his work in science communication, presenting documentaries for the BBC and hosting the podcast “Dr Giles Yeo Chews The Fat.” His literary contributions include the publication of two impactful books: “Gene Eating” in December 2018 and “Why Calories Don’t Count” in June 2021.
In recognition of his significant contributions to research and public engagement, Yeo was appointed Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE) in the Queen’s 2020 birthday honors. His accolades include receiving the Society for Endocrinology Medal in 2022, further solidifying his influence in the fields of genetics and nutrition.
