Donnie Yen

Donnie Yen Chi-tan is a distinguished Hong Kong actor, filmmaker, martial artist, and action director, renowned for his dynamic contributions to cinema. His impressive accolades include three Golden Horse Awards and five Hong Kong Film Awards. Yen gained international fame for his portrayal of the legendary Wing Chun master, Ip Man, in the acclaimed film series comprising Ip Man (2008), Ip Man 2 (2010), Ip Man 3 (2015), and Ip Man 4: The Finale (2019). He also produced the spin-off, Master Z: Ip Man Legacy (2018).

Born in Guangdong, China, Yen showed an early passion for martial arts, experimenting with various styles, including tai chi. At 18, he caught the attention of renowned action choreographer Yuen Woo-ping in Hong Kong, leading to his first major role in the martial arts film Drunken Tai Chi (1984). His breakout performance came as the villain General Nap-lan in Once Upon a Time in China II (1992), alongside Jet Li. Yen's career flourished with notable films like Iron Monkey (1993), Wing Chun (1994), and his directorial debut, Legend of the Wolf (1997).

Yen ventured into Hollywood with Highlander: Endgame (2000) and later appeared in films such as Shanghai Knights (2003), Rogue One (2016), XXX: Return of Xander Cage (2017), Mulan (2020), and John Wick: Chapter 4 (2023). He remains a pivotal figure in Hong Kong cinema, contributing to hits like Hero (2002) and Raging Fire (2021). Through his production company, Bullet Films, established in 1997, Yen has also influenced numerous Western action films. His innovative approach, blending traditional martial arts with mixed martial arts (MMA), has significantly popularized Wing Chun globally.
