Neville D'Almeida, born in 1941 in Belo Horizonte, Brazil, is a renowned filmmaker, screenwriter, actor, photographer, and multimedia artist. His upbringing in a Methodist Christian household shaped his early artistic pursuits, leading him to study theater at the Scholastic Theatre of Minas Gerais while also engaging with the local Center of Film Studies. This foundation set the stage for his career in filmmaking.

D'Almeida is known for his bold and provocative films, many of which faced censorship and bans under the Brazilian military regime. Despite these challenges, he shifted towards a more commercial direction in his work. His 1978 feature, "Lady on the Bus," featuring the acclaimed actress Sônia Braga, became a massive success, ranking as the third highest-grossing Brazilian film in history.
