Amparo Muñoz

Amparo Muñoz y Quesada (June 21, 1954 – February 27, 2011) was a prominent Spanish actress, model, and beauty queen who made history by winning the Miss Universe title in 1974 held in Manila, Philippines. To this day, she remains the first and only Spaniard to achieve this prestigious honor.

Her reign as Miss Universe was notably brief; Muñoz relinquished her crown just six months later, citing her unwillingness to adhere to the Miss Universe Organization's regulations. During that period, no one was appointed to officially take over her title, leaving her position unfilled.

Following her departure from the beauty pageant scene, Muñoz transitioned into acting, gaining acclaim in the Spanish film industry. She appeared in a variety of comedic films, such as "Mama Turns 100," as well as dramatic roles in productions like "Clara es el Precio," "The Other Bedroom," and "Dedicatory." Despite her successful career, her personal life was often marked by controversy and sensational events.

Amparo Muñoz passed away on February 27, 2011, due to complications from a cerebral aneurysm. She was cremated and laid to rest at the Roman Catholic cemetery of Saint Michael in Málaga, Spain, leaving behind a legacy that intertwines beauty, talent, and a complex personal narrative.
