LaWanda Page, born Alberta Richmond on October 19, 1920, was a prominent American actress, comedian, and dancer known for her remarkable six-decade career in entertainment. Often referred to as "The Queen of Comedy" or "The Black Queen of Comedy," Page skillfully blended blue humor, signifyin', and observational comedy to address themes such as sexuality, race relations, African-American culture, and spirituality. Her comedic talent was showcased in five solo albums, among which the 1977 release, *Watch It, Sucker!*, achieved gold status.

In addition to her solo work, Page partnered with the comedy ensemble Skillet, Leroy & Co. on two albums, further establishing her comedic legacy. Page is perhaps best recognized for her iconic role as the sharp-witted, Bible-carrying "Aunt" Esther Anderson in the beloved sitcom *Sanford and Son*, which aired from 1972 to 1977. She later reprised this memorable character in the spin-off series *Sanford Arms* (1976–1977) and *Sanford* (1980–1981). Additionally, she co-starred in the brief series *Detective School* in 1979.

Beyond her remarkable performances, Page was a passionate advocate for equitable pay and opportunities for Black artists, fighting for justice in the entertainment industry throughout her career. LaWanda Page passed away on September 14, 2002, leaving behind a profound legacy in comedy and acting.
