Phil Austin

Phil Austin, born on April 6, 1941, in Denver, Colorado, is a renowned comedian and writer who has left a significant mark on the world of comedy. He spent his formative years in Fresno, California, where he completed his education at Fresno High School. His academic journey took him to Bowdoin College and later to UCLA, where he began his career in the late 1960s at KPFK radio in Los Angeles.

Austin gained widespread recognition as a key member of The Firesign Theatre, where he remains the only original member. Among his most memorable characters is Nick Danger, a role that has become synonymous with his comedic identity. Additionally, he portrayed Harry (Happy) Cox in the classic audio work *Everything You Know Is Wrong* and lent his voice to Bebop Loco/Lobo in *Give Me Immortality or Give Me Death*. Beyond performing, he contributes as the group's musician and record producer.

His literary contributions include the short story collection *Tales of the Old Detective and Other Big Fat Lies*, published by Audio Editions, and two stories featured in *Mirth of a Nation*.
