Artimus Pyle

Artimus Pyle, born in Louisville, Kentucky, is a renowned drummer best known for his work with the iconic Southern rock band Lynyrd Skynyrd. His journey began with a four-year service in the United States Marine Corps from 1967 to 1971, where he achieved the rank of sergeant in aviation. In 1974, Pyle joined Lynyrd Skynyrd, contributing his distinctive drumming style to the band's legendary sound.

Pyle's life took a tragic turn in 1977 when he survived a catastrophic plane crash that claimed the lives of bandmates Ronnie Van Zant, Cassie Gaines, and Steve Gaines. Despite sustaining multiple broken ribs, Pyle and fellow survivors trekked to a nearby farmhouse in search of help, only to be met with suspicion from the residents. Fortunately, the local fire department intervened, confirming their story, though Pyle humorously recalls being inadvertently shot in the shoulder with an air rifle by the farmer's son during the encounter.

In recognition of his contributions to music, Pyle was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2006. Today, he resides in Asheville, North Carolina, where he continues to perform, both as a solo artist and with various musicians, including former bandmates and tribute bands. His own ensemble, "The Artimus Pyle Band," released the album "Artimus Venomous" in 2007, and he also collaborates with "The Floyd County Rangers," showcasing his enduring passion for music.
