Michael Genevie
Michael Genevie, born on September 30, 1959, is a distinguished American actor known for his work in stage, film, and television. He served as the Executive and Artistic Director of the Abbeville Opera House, South Carolina's official drama state theatre, from 1979 until 2018.
Hailing from West Virginia, Genevie graduated from the Florida State University School of Theatre in 1976, where he earned a Master of Fine Arts in Directing. He launched his professional career shortly after completing an internship at the prestigious Actors Theatre of Louisville, eventually taking on the role of Director at the Abbeville Opera House, where he dedicated over 25 years of service.
Throughout his career, Genevie has appeared in more than 75 feature films, television series, and made-for-TV movies, showcasing his versatility and talent as an actor. His leadership at the Abbeville Opera House has been transformative; under his guidance, the theatre has garnered the South Carolina Governors Travel Award for Tourism on two occasions. Additionally, Genevie has been inducted into the Abbeville County Hall of Fame, recognizing his significant contributions to the community's revitalization efforts. The historic Abbeville Opera House, which opened its doors in October 1908, stands as a testament to his dedication to the arts and local culture.
