Kayo Shekoni, a versatile artist from Sweden, began her career in the 1980s as a singer with the synth-pop group Freestyle. After departing from the band following the release of their hit single "Vill ha dej," she transitioned into a role as a backup singer and dancer for notable Swedish musicians, including The Creeps and Anders Glenmark. With a strong foundation as a classically trained ballet dancer, Kayo enjoyed a successful professional dance career before making a significant mark in music.

In 1990, she emerged in the Nordik beat scene with her self-titled album, characterized by influences of new jack swing, reggae, and hip hop. Produced by Stonebridge alongside Christian Falk and Alexander Bard, the album spawned four successful singles. Kayo's subsequent release, "Kärleksland," showcased her talent in Swedish soul-pop, featuring tracks by Orup, and garnered favorable radio reception.

The mid-1990s saw Kayo acting in teenage films and later joining the pop duo Le Click, which achieved considerable success in North America and Germany. In the early 2000s, she became a member of Afro-dite, which reached the finals of Melodifestivalen 2002 and represented Sweden at the Eurovision Song Contest in Tallinn.

Kayo has continued to engage with her artistic roots through various endeavors, including hosting TV shows like Förkväll and Fångarna på fortet. Today, she balances her work as a skin therapist with performances as a DJ and as a member of the Cotton Club band, alongside her ongoing involvement with Afro-Dite. In 2010, she contributed to the Melodifestivalen by performing a medley of past winners and co-hosted the pan-Scandinavian TV show Inför Eurovision Song Contest 2010, highlighting her enduring presence in the entertainment industry.
