His early life saw him relocating to Taganrog, Rostov Oblast, where he pursued a degree from the Taganrog Institute of Radio Engineering, graduating in 1986.

Vetrov's performing career began in 1985, and he quickly became a prominent figure in the theatrical landscape. He honed his craft at the Riga Russian Theatre, and further refined his skills at the School of Dramatic Art under the guidance of Anatoly Vasiliev, as well as in Mikhail Butkevych's Laboratory. His tenure at the Maxim Gorky Rostov Drama Theater from 1989 to 1991 marked a significant period of his artistic development, where he delivered memorable performances that resonated with audiences.

Following his time at the Rostov theater, Vetrov briefly returned to the School of Dramatic Art, continuing to influence the next generation of performers.
