Marcelo Romo
Marcelo Romo, born on April 23, 1941, in Santiago, Chile, was a distinguished actor celebrated for his contributions to film, theater, and television. He honed his craft at the University of Chile’s School of Theater, emerging as a prominent figure in the Chilean acting scene from the 1960s onward. Romo made a significant impact with his film debut in Miguel Littín's "El Chacal de Nahueltoro" (1969), where he portrayed a journalist, marking the beginning of a remarkable cinematic journey that would encompass over thirty films.
During the oppressive years of the Pinochet regime, Romo sought refuge in Venezuela, where he continued to flourish in the arts. His film credits from this period include "La máxima felicidad" (1982) and "Señora Bolero" (1991). He also made notable contributions to theater and television, later expanding his career into Mexico and Colombia.
Romo returned to Chile in the 1990s and became a beloved figure in popular television series such as "Rojo y Miel," "Sucupira," "Estúpido Cupido," and "Pecadores," which marked his final television role in 2003. Renowned for his versatility and deep emotional portrayals, he was a socially conscious artist who left a lasting legacy in the cultural landscape. In his later years, Romo faced the challenges of Alzheimer’s disease and ultimately passed away in Santiago on January 23, 2018, at the age of 76.
