Tracey Deer

Tracey Deer, hailing from the Mohawk community of Kahnawake, has established herself as a distinguished Indigenous filmmaker, producer, writer, mentor, and advocate. With a degree in Film Studies from Dartmouth College, she has honed her skills as a powerful visual storyteller dedicated to creating meaningful narratives that resonate with audiences and reflect Indigenous experiences.

Throughout her career, Tracey has garnered significant acclaim for her work, including her notable film "Beans," which premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival in 2020 and later received a Canadian Screen Award nomination for Best Motion Picture. The film, inspired by her own childhood experiences during the Oka Crisis, has been celebrated for its authentic portrayal of Indigenous youth and their struggles.

In addition to her film work, Tracey is deeply committed to mentorship and education within the Indigenous community. She has been instrumental in fostering emerging talent through various initiatives, including her work with the imagineNATIVE Film + Media Arts Festival, where she serves as a mentor.
