Béatrice Picard
Béatrice Picard (July 3, 1929 – December 9, 2025) was a prominent Canadian actress whose impressive career spanned over sixty years. She gained widespread recognition for her portrayal of Angelina Desmarais in the groundbreaking French Canadian television series "Le survenant," one of the earliest "télé-romans" during the formative years of French-language television. Picard also lent her voice to the character Marge in the Québec adaptation of The Simpsons, a role she held from 1989 until 2023 when Chantal Baril succeeded her.
In 1958, she was honored with the title of "Miss Radio, Télévision et Cinéma Monde," highlighting her early prominence in the entertainment industry. Her talent was further acknowledged when she received a nomination for Best Lead Actress at the 2008 Genie Awards for her moving performance in "My Aunt Aline" (Ma tante Aline), where she played the titular role.
Picard's contributions to the arts were recognized with her appointment as a Member of the Order of Canada in 1988, followed by her elevation to Officer of the National Order of Québec in 2012. Her legacy in Canadian television and film remains influential, and she passed away on December 9, 2025, at the age of 96, leaving behind a rich cultural heritage.
