Julie Barclay, born in Hertfordshire in August 1961, is a versatile performer and educator with a rich background in the arts. Growing up with her brother Graham, who enlisted in the army when she was 13, Julie was influenced by her mother, a corsetier, and her father, who transitioned from public relations to becoming an Anglican vicar. Her passion for the performing arts blossomed early, as she thrived in dance, drama, and ice skating at Woodmansterne Primary School and later at Aylesbury Grammar School.

Upon moving to North Wales, she attended Mold Alun Comprehensive School and joined The Clwyd Youth Theatre, where she gained valuable experience in community performances and theatre administration. Julie pursued formal training in acting at the Welsh College of Music and Drama from 1981 to 1984. Early in her career, she engaged in stand-up comedy to earn her Equity Card and performed with the Sherman Theatre Company in Cardiff, contributing to productions like *Something Afoot* and *The Amazing Mr Toad*.

Her significant achievements include touring with Hull Truck Theatre in the award-winning *Salt The Earth*, which represented Britain at the International Theatre Festival in New York. After a successful stint in radio and voice acting, Julie returned to education, earning a PG qualification in Lecturing. She taught at Coleg Glan Hafren and the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama.

Julie’s career continued to flourish in television and film, with notable roles in productions like *Maudie's Rooms* and adaptations of literary works. In 2014, she faced and triumphed over breast cancer, returning to her beloved craft with renewed vigor. Today, Julie remains an inspiring figure in the arts, actively engaging in theatre and nurturing the next generation of performers.
