Mamunur Rashid

Mamunur Rashid stands as a pivotal figure in the theatre landscape of Bangladesh, recognized for his significant contributions to social awareness through the performing arts. He serves as the chief secretary of Aranyak, a prominent theatre group dedicated to enlightening the masses about their rights and societal issues through compelling narratives. Born on February 29, 1948, in the village of Paikora, located in the Kalhati upazila of Tangail, Rashid has dedicated his life to the promotion of cultural expression and community engagement.

Among his group’s notable works, "Rarang" highlights the experiences of the Santal community, shedding light on their traditions and challenges, while "Ebong Biddyasagar" explores themes of education and empowerment. Both productions have garnered critical acclaim and have resonated with audiences, reflecting Rashid's commitment to addressing social injustices through theatre.

In recognition of his outstanding contributions to the arts, Mamunur Rashid was awarded the Ekushey Padak in 2012, one of Bangladesh's most prestigious civilian honors.
