Sotiris Moustakas
Sotiris Moustakas (Greek: Σωτήρης Μουστάκας) was a celebrated Greek Cypriot actor, born on September 17, 1940, in Kato Platres, Limassol. His illustrious acting career spanned over 40 years, with the peak of his success occurring during the 1960s through the 1980s. Moustakas was often referred to as an "Actor without a Label," reflecting his remarkable versatility across various genres in theater, film, television movies, series, and even videotapes, earning critical acclaim in each medium.
He gained international recognition for his iconic portrayal of "Mimithos" in the 1964 Oscar-winning film *Zorba the Greek*, which catapulted him to national stardom in both Cyprus and Greece. His contributions during the Golden Age of Cypriot and Greek Cinema (1950s–1970s) solidified his status as a cultural icon.
Moustakas's final film appearance was in the 2007 Goya Award-winning *El Greco*, where he portrayed the character "Titian." He also lent his voice to the Greek version of Disney's *Meet the Robinsons* in 2007, marking his last role. Renowned primarily for his comedic performances, Sotiris Moustakas is remembered as one of the greatest comedic actors in the history of Cypriot and Greek cinema, leaving a lasting legacy in the world of entertainment. He passed away on June 4, 2007.
