Matt Johnson, born on February 3, 1969, is a renowned British keyboardist known for his work with the funk and jazz band Jamiroquai. At just one and a half years old, Matt began his musical journey on the piano at home, inspired by a musical family. He recalls his early piano lessons with a rather intimidating instructor who was well into her 90s. Influenced by musical legends like Herbie Hancock and Miles Davis, as well as contemporary artists like Squarepusher, Johnson developed a diverse musical style.

Prior to joining Jamiroquai, Matt was active in the music scene as a writer and performer with bands like Sunray, which notably collaborated with Kym Mazelle on the cover of "Perhaps," and Nu Hope. His songwriting talents also led him to produce tracks for various artists, including Alexia's minor hit, "Ring."

Matt's entry into Jamiroquai came in 2002 after a successful audition, recommended by former guitarist Simon Katz. He officially joined the band on May 2, 2002, taking over from founding member Toby Smith. Beyond his role in Jamiroquai, he has contributed as a chief songwriter and producer for Julian Perretta's debut album, Stitch Me Up, released in 2010.

In 2017, Matt co-produced and co-wrote tracks for Jamiroquai's album, Automaton, and in 2020, he launched his solo project with the album With the Music, featuring singles like "With The Music" and "Sunshine." Described by Sound on Sound magazine as one of the most talented keyboardists in recent years, Matt continues to make an impact in the music industry. He married Tanya Burke on July 18, 2006.
