Libby Titus

1 title Acting Jul 06, 1946 Woodstock , New York

Libby Titus is a multifaceted talent known for her contributions as a singer, songwriter, actor, and concert producer. Although her formal education at Bard College in New York was curtailed by early marriage and motherhood at nineteen, Titus's passion for music never waned. In 1968, she debuted with her self-titled album, "Libby Titus," which featured a mix of folk-rock and pop covers released on Hot Biscuit. She lent her voice to backing vocals for several artists, including Martin Mull on his eponymous 1972 album, while honing her songwriting craft.

Her second album, also titled "Libby Titus," was released in 1977 under Columbia Records, produced by the esteemed Phil Ramone. Throughout the late 1970s, she collaborated with legendary composer Burt Bacharach, penning multiple songs that appeared on his albums, including "Riverboat" and "In Tune." Additionally, she co-wrote "Love You By Heart" for Carly Simon’s 1979 album, "Spy," and contributed to the Sesame Street album "In Harmony" in 1980 alongside Dr. John.

Titus's acting career includes appearances in films such as "Heartburn" (1986) and "Awakenings" (1990). In the late '80s, she began producing intimate rock-and-roll musicals in New York, which ultimately led to the creation of the New York Rock and Soul Revue in 1989, co-produced with Donald Fagen. This initiative played a significant role in the reunion of Steely Dan in the early '90s.

Titus's personal life has also been rich and varied; she has been linked to notable figures such as Levon Helm and Dr. John, and in 1993, she married Donald Fagen, a fellow Bard College alum. Her legacy continues to resonate through her music and collaborations.
