Sek Kin
Shih Kien (Chinese: 石堅; 1 January 1913 – 3 June 2009), also recognized by the names Shek Wing-cheung, Sek Gin, or Shek Kin, was a distinguished Chinese actor and martial artist based in Hong Kong. Born on January 1, 1913, in Shigang, Guangzhou, he left an indelible mark on the film industry before passing away on June 3, 2009, in Hong Kong.
Sek Kin's journey in cinema began in 1939 when he first entered the industry as a make-up artist. His acting career took off in 1940 with his debut in "Flower in a Sea of Blood." Throughout the 1950s and 1960s, he gained fame for his portrayals of villains in numerous kung fu films, including the celebrated "Wong Fei Hung" and "Fong Sai Yuk" series, along with "Buddha's Palm."
One of his most memorable performances came in 1973 when he starred alongside Bruce Lee in the iconic film "Enter the Dragon," where he played the role of Han, the film's primary antagonist. His portrayal earned him critical acclaim, solidifying his status as one of the legendary villains in kung fu cinema.
Continuing his career into the 1970s and 1980s, Sek Kin also took on roles in television series and worked as a production manager. His contributions to cinema were recognized with the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Hong Kong Film Critics' Association in 1996 and the Professional Achievement Award at the Hong Kong Film Awards in 2003. Sek Kin is remembered as a pivotal figure in the Hong Kong film industry, particularly for his iconic villain roles and his early work that helped shape the landscape of the region's cinema.
