Antonythasan Jesuthasan

Antonythasan Jesuthasan, also recognized by his literary alias Shobasakthi, is a prominent Sri Lankan Tamil writer and actor. Born in 1967 in the village of Allaipiddy on Velanaitivu Island in northern Sri Lanka, Jesuthasan's life journey is marked by resilience and creativity.

After relocating to Paris, he undertook a variety of menial jobs, such as stocking shelves, cooking, washing dishes, street sweeping, and even working as a bellhop at Euro Disney. Despite the challenges he faced in a foreign land, these experiences enriched his later artistic endeavors.

In 2011, Jesuthasan made a significant mark in the film industry with his debut project, "Sengadal" (The Dead Sea). In this poignant film, he wrote and starred in a narrative that sheds light on the struggles of Tamil fishermen in the largely deserted village of Dhanushkodi, located in southern India. This work not only highlighted the socio-economic challenges faced by the Tamil community but also showcased his talent as both a writer and an actor.

Through his artistic contributions, Jesuthasan has garnered recognition for bringing attention to the complexities of Tamil identity and the human condition, making him a notable figure in contemporary Tamil literature and cinema. His works continue to resonate with audiences, reflecting both personal and collective narratives of struggle and resilience.
