Andrew Unsworth
Andrew Unsworth is a distinguished organist serving at the Tabernacle in Salt Lake City, where he plays a key role in the daily recital series on the impressive 206-rank Æolian-Skinner organ. He also accompanies the renowned Tabernacle Choir at Temple Square (formerly known as the Mormon Tabernacle Choir) during its celebrated weekly broadcast, "Music and the Spoken Word." Hailing from Potsdam, New York, Dr. Unsworth grew up in a musical family, which undoubtedly influenced his career path. He earned a Bachelor of Music in organ performance and pedagogy from Brigham Young University, followed by both a master’s and a doctoral degree in historical performance practice from Duke University.
Before joining the team at the Tabernacle, Dr. Unsworth held the position of organist and assistant director of music at the Cathedral of the Madeleine in Salt Lake City. He also served as an assistant professor of music history and organ at Stephen F. Austin State University in Nacogdoches, Texas. His performances have taken him across the United States and Europe, where he has appeared as both a soloist and an accompanist, including at significant gatherings of the Organ Historical Society and the American Guild of Organists. Notably, his solo recording, "French and German Masterworks," is available through the Raven label. Furthermore, Dr. Unsworth is recognized by the American Guild of Organists, holding the Associateship certificate and the prestigious S. Lewis Elmer Award. He and his wife, Alison, are proud parents to five children.
