Sandra Milo
Sandra Milo, born Salvatrice Elena Greco on March 11, 1933, in Tunis, was a multifaceted Italian actress, television host, author, and musician. Her remarkable talent earned her two Silver Ribbons for Best Supporting Actress for her performances in Federico Fellini’s iconic films, *8½* and *Juliet of the Spirits*.
Milo made her cinematic debut in 1955 alongside Alberto Sordi in *The Bachelor*, but her breakthrough role came in 1959 in *General della Rovere*, produced by Moris Ergas and directed by Roberto Rossellini. She also featured in Rossellini's *Vanina Vanini*, although the film received negative reviews at the Venice Festival, impacting his career.
After marrying, she stepped back from acting, primarily appearing in comedies and melodramas until Fellini encouraged her return as the spirited mistress in *8½*. Despite the film's critical acclaim, it did little to alter her public image, and although she starred in *Juliet of the Spirits*, many subsequent roles were in lesser films.
In the mid-1960s, Milo hosted a television show in Rome. She initially retired again in 1968 but made a comeback in 1979, transitioning to portray more complex middle-aged characters. Her later work included a theatrical tour of *8 Women* in 2006-07.
Milo had a daughter, Deborah, with her first husband, Moris Ergas, and two children, Ciro and Azzurra, with her second husband, Ottavio De Lollis. She passed away on January 29, 2024, in Rome. Milo was a devoted Roman Catholic.
