Murray Head

Murray Seafield St George Head, born on March 5, 1946, in London, is a distinguished English actor and musician. He gained significant recognition for his portrayal of Bob Elkin in the acclaimed 1971 film *Sunday Bloody Sunday*, which was nominated for an Academy Award. As a singer, Head is celebrated for his hit tracks "Superstar" from the 1970 rock opera *Jesus Christ Superstar* and "One Night in Bangkok," a chart-topping single from the 1984 musical *Chess*. His 1975 album, *Say It Ain't So*, further solidified his standing in the music industry.

Head hails from a creative family; his father, Seafield Laurence Stewart Murray Head, was a documentary filmmaker, while his mother, Helen Shingler, acted in the BBC's adaptation of the *Maigret* novels. His brother, Anthony Head, is also a well-known actor, famous for his role in *Buffy the Vampire Slayer*.

Educated at the Lycée Français Charles de Gaulle and Hampton School, Head began composing music in his youth and secured a recording contract in the mid-1960s. He made his film debut in *The Family Way* (1966) and ventured into radio drama with *The Fourth Tower of Inverness* in 1973. Although he faced a hiatus from the spotlight, he continued to create music and perform, demonstrating his enduring talent in both acting and singing.
