Yannis Economides, born in 1967 in Limassol, Cyprus, has established himself as a significant figure in the world of cinema and theatre. In 1987, he relocated to Athens to pursue a degree in filmmaking, where he began creating a series of short films and documentaries. His directorial debut in feature films came in 2003 with "MATCHBOX." However, it was his second feature, "SOUL KICKING," which premiered at the prestigious International Critics' Week during the Cannes Film Festival in 2006, that garnered wider attention.

Economides continued to build his reputation with his third film, "KNIFER" (2010), which achieved remarkable success, winning seven awards at the Greek Film Academy, including accolades for Best Film, Best Director, and Best Screenplay. His fourth feature, "STRATOS," was showcased in the Competition Programme at the 64th Berlin International Film Festival in 2014. Throughout his career, Economides has consistently received recognition from the Greek Film Critics Association, earning the title of Best Greek Feature Film of the Year for each of his four films.

In addition to his work in film, he ventured into theatre with his play "SLEEP, STELLA, SLEEP," which premiered at the New Stage of the National Theatre in Athens in October 2016. Economides has also appeared as a supporting actor in various Greek films, including a notable role in Fatih Akin's "In the Fade" (2017).
