Milhem Cortaz
Milhem Cortaz, born on December 6, 1971, in São Paulo, Brazil, is a celebrated actor and television presenter of Arab and Italian heritage. His foray into the performing arts began at the young age of 11, guided by the renowned actor Walmor Chagas in the 1983 theatrical production of O Santo Milagroso. At 15, seeking rehabilitation from substance abuse, Cortaz relocated to Italy to live with his aunt. There, he honed his craft at the prestigious Piccolo Teatro di Milano and engaged in street performances influenced by the Commedia dell'arte tradition.
In 1990, he returned to Brazil and became a member of the Centro de Pesquisa Teatral (CPT), where he quickly gained recognition. His breakout role came in 1995 with the play O Melhor do Homem, directed by Ulysses Cruz. Cortaz rose to prominence in the film industry with notable performances in critically acclaimed movies such as Carandiru (2003), Elite Squad (2007), and A Wolf at the Door (2013).
