Bobi Wine
Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu, widely recognized as Bobi Wine, was born on February 12, 1982. He is a prominent Ugandan public figure, renowned for his contributions as a politician, musician, and actor. A former representative for the Kyadondo County East constituency in Wakiso District, Bobi Wine is also the head of the National Unity Platform political party.
In June 2019, he declared his intention to run for the presidency in the 2021 Ugandan elections. During this highly contested election, he faced off against the long-serving incumbent, Yoweri Kaguta Museveni. Bobi Wine's campaign garnered significant attention both domestically and internationally, highlighting issues of governance and human rights in Uganda.
Following the election, on December 14, 2021, he was placed under house arrest by Ugandan authorities, a move that drew widespread condemnation and protests. Despite the restrictions, he has remained vocal about his political beliefs and the challenges faced by his supporters. In 2023, he traveled abroad to share his experiences through a documentary detailing the events of the 2021 elections. However, upon his return to Uganda on October 5, 2023, he was arrested once again, marking another chapter in his ongoing struggle for political freedom and justice in Uganda. Bobi Wine continues to be a significant figure in Ugandan politics, advocating for democracy and reform.
