Doug Sweetland
Douglas Sweetland is a distinguished American animator and director, whose passion for animation was ignited by classic Disney films and Saturday morning cartoons during his childhood in Pennsylvania. His early artistic endeavors included creating cartoons for the Central Pennsylvania Festival of the Arts. After completing high school in 1992, Sweetland pursued his dream by enrolling in the California Institute of the Arts (CalArts), though he left just shy of graduation in 1994 to join the renowned Pixar Animation Studios.
At Pixar, Sweetland made his mark as an animator on iconic films such as Toy Story, A Bug's Life, and Toy Story 2, the latter of which earned him an Annie Award nomination for Outstanding Individual Achievement in Character Animation. His remarkable talent was further recognized with consecutive Annie Awards for Outstanding Individual Achievement for his work on Monsters, Inc. and Finding Nemo. He also served as the lead animator on Bud Luckey's Oscar-nominated short Boundin' and contributed as an animator and storyboard artist for the Oscar-winning film The Incredibles. Additionally, he took on the role of supervising animator for John Lasseter’s Cars.
In 2007, Sweetland made his directorial debut with the short film Presto, which tells the comedic tale of a magician and his rabbit. The film received critical acclaim and was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Animated Short Film in 2008. In 2010, he was appointed by Sony Pictures Animation to direct the computer-animated feature film The Familiars, further solidifying his reputation in the animation industry.
