1 title Acting Jan 03, 1933 Died: Apr 05, 2015 Alger, Algeria

Sid Ali Kouiret (Arabic: سيد علي كويرات‎), born on January 3, 1933, in Algiers, Algeria, emerged from a challenging upbringing marked by domestic turmoil and poverty. His father, a taxi driver, struggled with alcoholism, leading to a tumultuous family life. At a young age, Kouiret turned to the streets of Algiers, abandoning school to survive through petty thefts and odd jobs, including working as a shoeshine boy.

His life took a transformative turn in 1950 when he encountered Mustapha Kateb, who managed an amateur theater group. This encounter ignited Kouiret's passion for acting, and he began to immerse himself in the performing arts, ultimately joining the EI-Mesrah EI-Djazairi troupe in Berlin in 1951 and performing in Paris the following year. By 1954, he had turned professional, joining the municipal theater of Algiers under Mahieddine Bachetarzi.

Kouiret was a significant figure in the artistic movement for Algerian independence, joining the FLN troupe in 1958, which performed across various countries. After Algeria gained independence in 1962, he became a prominent actor at the newly established Algerian National Theater (TNA) and transitioned into film. His breakout role came in 1970 with "L'Opium et le Bâton," and he garnered international acclaim for his performance in "The Return of the Prodigal Son" (1976) and won the Best Actor award at the Damascus International Film Festival in 1985 for "L'Empire des Rêves."

Kouiret continued to act in theater and film until his retirement from TNA in 1987, returning for notable performances in productions like "Death of a Salesman" and the sitcom "La Famille Ramdam." Active until 2010, he passed away on April 5, 2015, in Algiers
