Peter MacMillan is a distinguished translator, scholar, poet, and artist whose work spans cultures and disciplines. Hailing from a rural area in Ireland, where horses outnumbered residents, he excelled academically, graduating at the top of his class from the National University of Ireland, University College Dublin. He furthered his education with a Master’s degree in philosophy and a Ph.D. in English literature, supplemented by two years as a Visiting Fellow at prestigious institutions such as Princeton, Columbia, and Oxford.

Holding dual citizenship in Ireland and Britain, MacMillan has resided in Japan for over two decades, aiming to foster connections between Japan and the global community. He is known artistically as Seisai.

Dr. MacMillan's literary contributions include his acclaimed translation of *One Hundred Poets, One Poem Each* (Hyakunin Isshu), which garnered awards in both Japan and the United States upon its release in 2008. His English translation of *The Tales of Ise* (Ise Monogatari), published by Penguin in 2016, further solidified his reputation in the field. Additionally, he has authored a poetry collection titled *Admiring Fields*.

An active member of both Pen America and the Japanese Pen Club, MacMillan serves on the board of directors at the Japan Cultural Institute and is the President of The Moon is a Boat Co., Ltd., reflecting his commitment to cultural exchange and artistic innovation.
