Scott Thornton pursued his passion for acting at the Eora Centre in Redfern, Sydney, where he honed his craft before stepping into the film industry. His debut came with a short film titled "Camping Out," directed by Lee Willis-Ardler. However, Scott is best known for his poignant portrayal of Gonzo in the critically acclaimed film "Samson and Delilah," a character crafted specifically for him by his brother, filmmaker Warwick Thornton.

Gonzo is depicted as a troubled alcoholic living under a bridge, who provides rare compassion to the film's protagonists during their challenging journey. Warwick has openly acknowledged that the character mirrors Scott's own life experiences. "He truly embodies that character," Warwick remarked, describing Gonzo as a reflection of his brother's struggles with addiction.

In preparation for this demanding role, Scott committed to a rehabilitation program in Cairns, a pivotal step negotiated with Warwick, who believed that confronting his brother's issues would enrich his performance. After completing rehab, Scott quickly transitioned into his film role, rehearsing just two days before filming began in Alice Springs. His authentic portrayal garnered significant praise, as Warwick emphasized the depth and reality Scott brought to the character—drawing from his own life. Through this project, Scott not only showcased his talent but also embarked on a transformative journey, marking a significant milestone in his acting career.
