Jeannette Dorothea Louise Charles (née Clark; October 15, 1927 - June 2, 2024) was an esteemed English actress renowned for her captivating portrayals of Queen Elizabeth II. Born with a striking resemblance to the monarch, Charles faced initial challenges in securing Equity membership during her early career in repertory theatre. However, her unique appearance ultimately defined her legacy, leading to a prolific career in film and television.
Charles brought the Queen to life in a variety of films, including *Secrets of a Superstud* (1976), *Queen Kong* (1976), *The Rutles' All You Need Is Cash* (1978), and *National Lampoon's European Vacation* (1985). Her comedic flair shone in *The Naked Gun: From the Files of Police Squad!* (1988) and *Austin Powers in Goldmember* (2002), where her performances delighted audiences.
On the small screen, Charles showcased her talent as a semi-regular on Spike Milligan's acclaimed Q series on BBC Television. She made a memorable appearance on Channel 4's *Big Brother 10*, surprising contestant Rodrigo Lopes, who believed he was meeting the real Queen.
