Marc Caro

1 title Directing Apr 02, 1956 Paris, France

Marc Caro, born on April 2, 1956, is a renowned French filmmaker and cartoonist celebrated for his creative collaborations with Jean-Pierre Jeunet. The duo first crossed paths at an animation festival in Annecy in 1974, sparking a partnership that would lead to several acclaimed projects. Their initial foray into live-action filmmaking was the short film *The Bunker of the Last Gunshots* (1981), a grim narrative set in a dystopian future.

Caro and Jeunet gained widespread recognition with their first feature film, *Delicatessen* (1991), a darkly comedic tale situated in a post-apocalyptic world ravaged by famine. The film revolves around a butcher who resorts to murder to feed the tenants of his building, blending humor with horror in a uniquely captivating manner. Their subsequent collaboration, *The City of Lost Children* (1995), further showcased their distinctive style, presenting a surreal story about a scientist who kidnaps children’s dreams to stave off aging.

The success of *The City of Lost Children* opened the door for Jeunet to direct *Alien: Resurrection* (1997). However, Caro chose to step away from Hollywood's constraints to pursue a solo career in illustration and computer graphics. His debut as a solo director came with *Dante 01*, marking a new chapter in his artistic journey. Through his innovative storytelling and visual artistry, Marc Caro continues to leave a lasting impact on the cinematic landscape.
