James Nachtwey

James Nachtwey, a prominent American photojournalist and war photographer, has made a significant impact on the field of visual storytelling through his powerful images capturing the human condition in times of conflict. His remarkable career is highlighted by an impressive five-time recipient of the Robert Capa Gold Medal from the Overseas Press Club, along with two prestigious World Press Photo awards, underscoring his commitment to documenting the harsh realities of war.

Since 1984, Nachtwey has been associated with Time magazine as a contract photographer, where his compelling work has provided an unflinching look at global crises. Prior to this, he was with Black Star from 1980 to 1985 and later became a member of Magnum Photos from 1986 to 2001. He played a crucial role as a founding member of the VII Photo Agency, which he was a part of until 2011.

In 2003, while covering the Iraq War, Nachtwey faced a life-threatening incident when a grenade struck his convoy, yet he demonstrated remarkable resilience by fully recovering from his injuries.
