Peggy Lipton, born Margaret Ann Lipton on August 30, 1946, was a celebrated American actress and model whose career flourished in the late 1960s. She gained widespread recognition for her iconic performances as Julie Barnes in the groundbreaking series The Mod Squad (1968-1973) and as Norma Jennings in David Lynch's cult classic Twin Peaks (1990-1991, 2017).

Lipton began her career in modeling at the tender age of 15, securing a contract with the Ford Agency. Despite facing challenges with stuttering that made her introverted, she discovered that acting provided an avenue for self-expression and overcoming her insecurities.

Her portrayal of Julie Barnes, one of the first hippie undercover cops on television, was revolutionary, tackling significant social issues while showcasing an interracial cast. This role earned Lipton four Emmy nominations and a Golden Globe Award, establishing her as a prominent figure in the entertainment landscape.

In 1974, she married renowned music producer Quincy Jones, becoming one of the most high-profile interracial couples of the era. They welcomed two daughters, Kidada (born 1974) and Rashida Jones (born 1976), but Lipton stepped back from acting to prioritize her family, eventually divorcing in 1989.

After a hiatus, she returned to the screen, reprising her role in Twin Peaks. Lipton's memoir, "Breathing Out" (2005), chronicled her life, including her struggles with anxiety and her experiences in Hollywood. She passed away on May 11, 2019, at the age of 72, leaving behind a legacy as a cultural icon who helped pave the way for diversity in television.
