Suranne Jones, whose birth name is Sarah Ann Akers, is a renowned English actress and producer. She gained widespread recognition for her role as Karen McDonald on ITV's Coronation Street from 2000 to 2004, marking the beginning of her successful television career. After departing from the soap opera, she continued to make her mark in dramas such as Vincent (2005–2006), Strictly Confidential (2006), Harley Street (2008), and Unforgiven (2009).

Jones earned acclaim for her performance as Detective Rachel Bailey in the police drama Scott & Bailey, which aired from 2011 to 2016. Her career continued to flourish with significant roles in Single Father and Five Days (both in 2010), A Touch of Cloth (2012–2014), and The Crimson Field (2014). Her portrayal of Gemma Foster, a general practitioner facing personal betrayal in Doctor Foster (2015–2017), won her multiple awards, including the prestigious British Academy Television Award for Best Actress in 2016.
