Born in Queensland, Australia, in 1943, Archer grew up on a farm, which instilled in him a grounded and approachable demeanor. An accomplished athlete, he earned black belts in both Goju-ryu and Shotokan karate, showcasing his dedication to martial arts from an early age.

In the early 1970s, Archer relocated to Hong Kong to chase his dreams in the film industry. He made a significant impact with his portrayal of a ruthless karate student in *Enter the Dragon*, where he faced off against Bruce Lee. This role garnered positive attention and paved the way for his subsequent appearances in various martial arts films, including *Bruce Lee and Kung Fu Mania* (1992) and *Bruce Lee: The Intercepting Fist* (1999).
