Mizinga Mwinga, born in Zambia to Dave and Carole Mwinga, has carved a distinct path in the entertainment industry. His father is an engineer, while his siblings have pursued their own careers; his brother Stephen is a model, and his sister Alice is a talented cook. Mwinga's early education took place in Montreal, specifically in the neighborhoods of Pierrefonds and Pointe-Claire, before relocating to England prior to high school.
His passion for acting ignited during a college class, inspired by his mother’s encouragement. Mwinga began his career with minor roles across theater, film, and television, including a notable appearance in the acclaimed West End production of *Sweet Charity*.
His breakthrough came in 2012 when he portrayed the formidable rebel leader Grand Tigre Royal in Kim Nguyen's *War Witch*. The poignant film tackles the harrowing issue of child soldiers in sub-Saharan Africa, and Mwinga's character mistakenly believes the protagonist, played by Rachel Mwanza, possesses magical powers. Preparing for this role required him to master the Lingala language, which he diligently studied for months. The production was not without its challenges; while filming in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, a military convoy was necessary to ensure the cast's safety from local threats. *War Witch* garnered numerous accolades, including an Academy Award nomination for Best Foreign Film.
Continuing his career, Mwinga appeared in *White House Down* (2013) and starred in Darren Aronofsky's critically acclaimed film *Mother!* (2017). Currently residing in Montreal, he actively supports his community by volunteering at the local YMCA.
