Jill Marie Schoelen, born on March 21, 1963, is a notable American actress recognized for her unique contributions to the horror genre during the 1980s. The daughter of acclaimed fashion designer Dorothy Schoelen, Jill grew up in Burbank, California. She honed her craft at the Acting for Life Theatre and made her television debut as a teenager in the pilot for Best of Times (1981), which featured emerging talents like Nicolas Cage and Crispin Glover. Early in her career, she appeared in several lighthearted films targeted at youth, such as D.C. Cab (1983), Thunder Alley (1985), and Hot Moves (1984).

Schoelen's breakthrough came when she collaborated with horror maestro Wes Craven on the TV movie Chiller (1985). This connection paved the way for her iconic role in the cult classic The Stepfather (1987), where she portrayed a resourceful stepdaughter facing off against the seemingly mild-mannered yet sinister character played by Terry O'Quinn. The film's success positioned Jill for a promising career, leading her to star in The Phantom of the Opera (1989), where she shared the screen with horror legend Robert Englund.

Despite facing setbacks with a few lesser-known projects like Curse II: The Bite (1989) and Popcorn (1991), she made a noteworthy return in the thriller When a Stranger Calls Back (1993). After her experience with stalker roles in Not Again! (1996), she opted for a quieter life, raising two children with her husband, musician and composer Anthony Marinelli.
